When they just meet for the first time and the next day they are a couple. There’s a lot of rushed things in some BL, but I can’t stand when it’s too slow either.
Heres a list of some of my BL pet peeves:
- Rape (Esp. if it's romanticized and dismissed early on in the story)
- Really feminine bottoms
- Really large age gaps (gosh I hate dropping books after gushing over it for like a good 2 minutes before reading the Q&A section and seeing the 8 year age gap between the pairings. Yuck!)
- Immediate sex (quite biased since I prefer shounen ai more than smut so...)
- Annoying female characters that have 0 personality traits other than to be annoying
- Homophobia (unless written well)
- Weird body anatomy
I probably would add more since I know I'm incredibly picky nowadays when it comes to BL but these are some red flags that make me immediately drop a BL when seen :P
When one character is like, “I’m a virgin ⁄(⁄ ⁄·⁄ω⁄·⁄ ⁄)⁄ ”
And the other says, “Don’t worry, I’ll take you to heaven ლ(´ڡ`ლ)”
And then he sticks his telephone pole sized dick in the first guy’s ass with no prep and no lube and they both love it
One of the characters claims to be straight and their partner is just an exception
When the seme keeps his pants on during sex. Why does it happen so often?! Like they’re so horny they can’t take the time to take off their pants. I always worry about the zipper, lol.

But the only thing that makes me drop a story is the usual blackmail no other plot drama I realized I love you after you forced your dick into my ass which didn't bleed nor hurt one bit the next day. How do I know this is love ? Because now every time I see you my heart goes *kyun kyun* and I didn't hate the sex that much.
To sum it up: blackmail>rape( for 4 chapters) > sweetly in love for the rest of our life (last chapter). Basically, no plot, just sex, annoying characters, and a waste of time.
