Is this an Asian thing?

In a lot of these, gay manhwa and manga, there's always the "unwilling gay outting" arch of the story. Are the asian countries still so homophobic and sheltered that a gay couple rouses up so much stigma, that it's even in comics? Like, is the real life situation like this? I'm really curious what it's like to be gay or anything other than hetero in these countries and if it's anything like how these comics are.

well... yeah kinda. in my country
sometimes it's about religion(like my family),

sorry can't translate exactly what i truly wanna say in english very well

sometimes it's like...an old habit(?) there are always people you can't change ...like grandparents, with their tradition and stuff

there are also people who says they are ok with lgbtq peeps but when a family member/ someone they know is actually one, their behavior also changes... like my co workers...

heck even a famous afternoon tv show disrespected transwomen in my country yet only a few reported it, and I only saw it in a facebook post not an article

worse of all there was one tv series where they made a transwoman be a cliche antagonist that made alot of class c people (the masses) hate lgbtq more. so the stigma continues... (the actress was a cis not judging her. but just very poor representation. not even putting any real life struggles of being lgbt just all drama and being a bitch)

welp people liked the show where there was gays since they were both hot but that's all i can remember.

sorry it became a rant post hahaha

No problem, thanks for the info! The fact that there are still places with such strong homophobia is saddening but hopefully people will outgrow that small minded thinking.

Uhmm yeah, most Asia is still suuuuuuuuuuuuper conservative. I'm not asian but I've read many articles, seen many documentaries and of course read many manga, and even if it's ficcion it still reflects their behavior, culture and mentality.
