It's that shitty nanny handiwork under the order of the Imperial concubine mother of lewis who is also a very unlikable whamen. Even lewis is tired and not wanting to bother with his mother and got angry because she wants to kill yuri and control his life... Whew that's a lot but yeah it's the gits of the story. (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜
As far as I can infer, they arent lowly born girls, probably high officials' daughters or nobles daughters, not officially married and therefore not a "official" concubine. They're basically bed warmers that he can take interest in and choose to marry officially if he wants to, but he doesnt want to. I think singing girl is just a shitty translation for something that we dont know, but probably it means that their jobs are to entertain and impress the prince for him to choose to officially marry them. Theyre placed there in his mansion by force by someone of a higher rank who needs him to pick brides and produce many offspring. It's a political stunt that's very common. The prince has no interest so he doesnt touch them but they are part of his household. Getting rid of them without a good reason will look disrespectful to the person that forced them on the prince (probably the queen). The mc was considered trash for many years so even lesser ranked girls were seen as higher than her, therefore she had to greet them with respect, especially because they're likely other noble women. All systematic oppression within the house. Also, calling others as sister is a common form of politeness between even strangers.
p sure it's referring to brothel girls. if he didn't pick them up himself then they probs got shoved into his mansion by others. most likely his mother, brothers, etc. usually those types are used as people's spies. they normally have a p low rank in the mansion even if they do at some point gain the lords attention. Low level concubines, p much. (as for the one supposed concubine...she was of a higher social status and class thanks to her family so she would have been married off to him as a concubine even if he never touched her.) since they other girls are below a certain rank they wouldn't be greeted and would either give their greetings or would basically be treated as slightly better dressed servants and not usually really seen.
Maybe someone can clear this for me. I'm not expert in this ancient culture so perhaps I just got lost in translation.
It's about Lewis's concubines. In ch2 the nanny (old experienced servant) mentions about morning greeting of concubines and talks about them following the rules. When Yuri goes to greeting there are multiple women present, but it's mentioned that Lauren is the only concubine.
Ch56 forward there is another morning greeting where Yuri complaints about Lewis's multiple concubines. One of the women calls Yuri as sister and Yuri's nanny actually introduce them by name.
Ch57 they talk about Yuri's virginity, even to Lewis. But afterwards Lewis denies that they are his women and there is a term "singing girl" used.
I don't know what a singing girl is, but some type of performer or entertainer comes to mind. Would an entertainer be expected to do some morning greetings or even be allowed to hang around with the princess and call her a sister? I thought this was only expected of concubines? Let alone them talking and questioning the princesses virginity in her and the princes face?
Lewis also apparently never took any women to the mansion apart from Yuri, so where did these singing girls come from? By whom? And why must he keep them there if it's so uncomfortable for him? Confusing.
