There are only 12 chapters, so there isn't a lot of time for all the typical clichés, so I'd recommend holding off dropping the series after the first chapter unless you find either of the main characters extremely objectionable. I have read the whole thing elsewhere and I'll probably read it all again as it gets posted here.
