right, cuz the person generalizing all east asian languages and then saying they all sound like squirrels is not weird. But the person who calls them out instead is the one at fault.. right..
The point is that it’s not racism. They said they aren’t a fan of Japanese and Korean voices because they think they sound like squirrels. Though they didn’t say all of them sounds like that.they didn’t generalize all east Asian languages especially since they only listed two of them and again they didn’t say all.
Yeah I mis spoke saying shes generalizing "ALL" east asian languages but that is insignificant. I think you're missing the point.. would you not say its kinda weird to say an entire group of people who speak that language have voices that sound like squirrels. That is a generalization. And an insulting and harmful one. And not only one language but two separate languages spoken by different ethnic groups. so that is in fact two separate generalizations. In her words "I am no fan of japanese/korean voices." She didn't specify any specific ppl she is generalizing the people that belong to that ethnic group. My original comment is just meant to remind op to be mindful about what they say towards minorities. Its not obvious racism or the most insidious kind but it is a more subtly rude comment that is still insulting two languages that belongs to a smaller ethnic group. Did Op mean bad intentions? probably not nd it doesnt matter. I was just informing them how what they said is a micro aggression nd they shud check themself. if you cant see the problem with her statement (however small it may be) then we jst wont see eye to eye nd thats fine. Yeah it’s definitely rude to say that. I mean if you have nothing nice to say don’t say it at all. I guess some people like to say things that come to mind so maybe they were being too blunt. They could’ve just left the part out that they sounded like squirrel tbh.
