Exactly my thoughts, and the way he is tryin to control Ed with minor things like "turn off your phone tonight" etc are just showing that McQueen had his eyes set on Ed since the beginning
Right?? McQueen, you can't fool us lol. He is so into Edd but for some reason he won't come out and say it. Can't he tell Edd has the feels for him too??? It is sooo obvious
I think McQueen is afraid to make a first move, maybe because of some bad experiences or just because he hates losing(refering to losing it by saying things first)

This is just my speculation, but I think McQueen was actually referring to Ed when he was talking about a man who is the object of his passionate and unrequited love but not quite a lover.
