The Spirit did split like what 1st brother said to hell king.
Its kinda predictable though.
Most stories like this has kind of like this plots.
3rd brother Baili met Spirit Bunny Tong (Gujiu) groomed her, taught her and even adopted her as official daughter of Baili family and his feelings of love for her grow over time.
Tong, already grown up, met the fox spirit king of hell Yueluo (Lianlian), piqued her interest and always met and played with him.
Even Tong was with Yueluo it was never clear that she did not also has affection to 3rd Bro Baili.
Maybe she just can't foster it because they where called family and maybe Yueluo was just in the right place and right time for Tong to give her love to someone who she knows she can love with no boundaries.
Tong maybe carefree but she was not stupid.
I think she already know the Baili family's situation and the 3rd Bro's marriage arrangement.
Thus, when she was told by 2nd Bro Baili to go with Yueluo, she was kind of reluctant and even told him about her not to be able to go with 3rd Bro on the festival.
