Whats the point of overly feminine characters in yaoi?

Why not just make it shoujo or gender bender? Larger fanbase anyway right?

I mean, titles like Otoshiana ni Hamerarete and Moon & Sun hav ultra fem charas too, but its portrayed almost ironically and/or its important to the plot. Otherwise... what's the point? Wouldn't it be better for the author to market his/her work in another sub-genre?

(No offense to ppl who like it obvi, just wondering.)

I like it more that shoujo and i'm not sure why, like i know real gay couples aren't like this and it could easily be replaced with a girl but I still like the feminine uke (as well as the many other more dominant types). I get why people some people don't like it though. It's like a guilty pleasure ig? Or like maybe cause it makes the seme feel more dominant and protective? Like with a girl but gay? I honestly don't get it myself. I just like reading it.

because the target audience is still female just like with shoujo, the whole point is to appeal to fantasy NOT reality.

If we wanted to read realistic depictions of the male form we would read like bara or something targeted at dudes.

Ah I see, thats interesting! Thanks for answering btw

Though I was thinking more from the POV of the mangaka since shoujo is more accessible to the masses while yaoi is still pretty niche (in my country at least)... and if they could earn more cha-ching that way? Haha.
