Umm I'm pretty sure everyone lost a best friend in the story... He wasn't only best friend with the red head dude, he was pretty close to everyone. Also he red head dude kept projecting his insecurities on to the pink hair dude (if that's who you mean as bf) and hating on him, making him feel horrible. So I don't feel really bad for him in that sense cause I felt bad everyone when that happened. He should have treated him better.
