You see, the thing about some people, they find fetishizing this sort of thing okay but when it comes to actual gay relationships they might be completely against it. (These people are a lot more common than you think). Putting fetishizing to the side, I think many people reading these sort of manga are accepting and probably support lgbt rights. I think many people also learn to accept it through reading (In my case, I might have actually turned out homophobic because of the people around me, but this was a sort of starting point to accept it). You could agree with this community not being as homophobic but the fetishizing is seriously out of hand sometimes...
Everyone has different opinions. It would be wrong trying to generalize a whole group. Some people do, some people don't. In my personal opinion though, I think it would be weird to read yaoi and not support the LGBT community, but because there are so many people who reads it, there are probably some people who do mind for whatever reason.
Well, in my country I never encountered a fujoshi/fudanshi who is homophobic irl...I can't really understand how this can work actually ? You like gays for the cute or hot stories but not irl ? How come o.o ??
I agree that reading yaoi can open minds though. I myself would have problably been more narrow minded than I am now if I hadn't started reading yaoi.
I also think that liking yaoi doesn't exclude not liking transgender and other sexual orientations. But here is the key word "other".You may accept one thing but not everything. You might like apples but it doesn't mean you like all the fruits altogether.
Personally I'm curious about other orientations and haven't set my mind on what I think about them yet because I know a lot of thoughts can be influenced by how I was raised etc. So I'm waiting for opportunities to talk to those people and reading more litterature to set my mind about it. For gays, lesbians, pansexuals, assexuals, bis and queers I totally support them because I could talk to people of those sexual orientation that could tell me how they lived and felt.
In conclusion I would say that I don't encourage hate against the lgbtq+ community but it doesn't mean that I don't understand people supporting one part of the community and not the rest.
For me it's a progress that a person can be enough open-minded to support one sexual orientation. There were times (and it still exists nowadays) were supporting anything not heterosexual was a shame and/or a crime...
I'm happy enough that there are small changes. It's like that that we will get ridden of every single prejudice. Step by step.
Well, what do you mean by "community"? A lot of people believe fujoshi are homophobic (I'm not just talking about the ones who hate gay people irl; even the allies are considered homophobic by many), but what other communities are we comparing them to? Do you mean fandoms? Or does this include actual communities, like WBC, for example?
Is the fujoshi/fudanshi community possibly the least homophobic community that is well known? (Maybe take fetishzation into consideration...)
Please discuss.
As a fujoshi myself that purely keep my fiction as fiction and not something to compare others with out in the "normal world", I'd like to hear others opinions on this.
