i often find that i’m unsatisfied by mangas like this one, because i think it’s a little unbelievable. not that bl mangas have to be believable or anything, but it seems weird that yuuto (yuuta?) ended up liking takeshi really just because he was gentle to him during their first time. takeshi could’ve been anyone, and yuuto would’ve felt the same as long as the person was relatively nice and gentle. takeshi stalks yuuto and oversteps his bounds so many times, asking yuuto to quit his job and reading yuuto’s old diary and calling ken. sure, all these things may have been for the better but we can see here how imbalanced their relationship is... yuuto is fairly ambivalent about takeshi and takeshi would do anything for yuuto to date him. the little jealousy plot at the end is supposed to make their relationship seem more mutual i guess, but it was pretty unconvincing. i know that bl doesn’t have to be satisfying to be good and all that but i’d just like maybe a few mangas that are actually show a realistic gay romance. what about any of this is realistic. also sex work isn’t some evil either. takeshi had some weird savior mentality, thinking that yuuto was poorly off bc he was a prostitute. i don’t think yuuto enjoyed it, but if he hard, it wouldn’t be takeshi’s place to tell yuuto to quit. this is way more writing than this bl deserves, but i feel so fundamentally unsatisfied with bl. people might say “them just dont read it!” but this doesn’t fix any of the problems i see. we can’t stop being critical of the content we consume!!! please, anyone who ends up reading this long paragraph, do not fall into complacency! don’t consume or support works that actively champion pedophilia or incest or rape or misogyny. and if you do, please think about why you’re okay with it! why do you want to read manga where idealized gay men fuck? the answer is not “because i’m a little sinnamon roll, and i love gay hot people!” god i just... you guys know that actual gay men exist, right? and they have very real lives that do not exist solely for your consumption. plus, we see often that women are treated as obstacles and selfish idiots, and the gay men in bl are usually far removed from any actual LGBT issues. sure there are exceptions to this, but by and large you see women treated as objects, and gay men living in a world where violent homophobia doesn’t exist (hey, i’d love to live in this world too! would love it if LGBT people faced no sexuality- or gender identity-based discrimination). i’ll snd this here, but my point in all of this is to take stock of what you read, and why you think you’re reading it. i say all of this as someone who obviously reads bl. my guess as to why i like bl is 1) i’m gay and sad 2) often men in bl are highly fictionalized and so i can engage in male sexuality in a way that’s free from misogyny. ok ok post over this is very very low tier “gay” media that often maintains 100% of the sexually coercive tropes of straight romance. also i didn’t talk about this but it deserves a point - so many yaoi boys are pale and skinny and i’m sure a lot of white female sexuality is imbued in the western side of this

it’s just me again. i made some typos here but whatever. there’s a lot that can also be said of the fetishization of lesbians by men as well, but that’s a pretty different thing. gay men aren’t oppressed by yaoi fangirls or anything, and the level of sexual violence against gay women is in no way comparable or even of the same magnitude as women who read (usually very boring) bl

ok my last point wasn’t totally clear but what i mean is - men often don’t believe the level of sexual violence used against women. this sexual violence is not equivalent to what yaoi fangirls think about gay men
