These people must be desensitized already from reading too much yaoi (which some of them include rape). It doesn't help that MC here, just like MC's in other yaoi, didn't have grudge against his rapist!
You can also say that it's a form of defense mechanism by talking about something irrelevant to ease their unsettled mind.
