I used to call myself a fujoshi because I thought the meaning is just "bl lover" in which, I am one. But then I learnt that fujoshi basically fetishizes gay relationship (correct me if I'm wrong, but I really believe that this is the case) and that is not a good thing (though I don't really know how to word it out). So now I think I'm just a person who loves reading bl, because just like you, I don't ship two people just because they're guys. In fact some gay people are not comfortable knowing that they are fetishized.
People dont really like the term because it means "rotten girl" (or something along those lines).
like you are "rotten" for reading about gays etc.
also because a lot of kids read gay manga they tend to get the wrong impressions, think and say dumb things about gays [fetishize them etc], which is not helping already stigmatized community.
if you want to you can call yourself a fujoshi, its not a slur, but you should just be aware why people dislike it.
thats why i prefer to call yaoi and shounen ai just gay or bl manga. if i read it only because of sex i would read gay hentai.
but i can appreciate nicely drawn sex xD
I’ve seen all over the internet hate towards fujoshi as they can be very disrespectful and misunderstand LGTB relationships. I myself was at first identified with the “fujoshi” term but now seeing what it really means for others being one I don’t feel it totally fits with me. I’m conscious of switch roles and feel some yaoi are totally unrealistic, I do not need hard (hardcore sex) in a yaoi manga to feel complete... But I also read all the time different yaoi. I don’t know if I should call myself a fujoshi if everyone sees them as a toxic group of people who just love hardcore gay sex and ship anyone that appears in their way. So what term I need to use for me to give the idea I like shounen ai/yaoi/BL and do respect LGTB people and do not stereotype them? (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜 That was a frickinn deep talk but its what I truly feel and I’m seeing that now being “fujoshi” is a ‘bad’ thing dk.
