He's at a loss, he doesn't know what to do next and what's right or wrong, why the other won't tell him anything and worst off, his sense of self is so different now and no one's willing to tell him anything so he's probably so confused and lost. Think of it like trying to walk through a dark foggy forest with no information of which direction to take except for a tiny light that you know may have alot of consequences but at least you have a sense of direction or will possibly give you clues in which direction to take.
