it's necesarry *shrugs. for me i've learned to live with it (i mean i've been reading smut for decades there should be a point where i got jaded) and I imagine the exact sound when I read it.
i think the sounds help the scenes in stories a lot and they would feel empty without them but during sex scenes the 'fwop' sound effect just makes me burst out laughing and ruins the mood oof

I just end up laughing at them. They distract me from the other noises. Not to mention the dialogue during sex often is way too unrealistic and ridiculous.
Thoughts on onomatopeias? Personally, I think 'squelch' sounds nauseating. And sex is great and all, moaning is nice, but schlop, squelch, schlick... written or in real life, I could do without.
