Hmmmm i think he's a beta because first he told shuu that there's no way he'll bear his child becaus as we all know that it is nearly impossible but still has a chance that a male beta can impregnate an omega. Secondly, he can't sense an omega's pheromones even when shuu went in heat in the past. I could be wrong though. (〜￣△￣)〜

Hahahaha my theory is that both his lack of sensitivity to pheromones and that "you won't get pregnant by me" (aka low fertility) is probably due to some kind of "delay" in his body growing, some kind of atrophy... Basically a malfunction in his organism, that makes him a "special" alpha or something. That is my theory at least. But (spoilers ahead)

He's an alpha alright, in chapter 4 he goes into rut because of Shuu's pheromone, randomly apparently. Another theory is that, once Shuu returns his feelings, Ayame kind "feels" the diffetent pheromones (bc fated mates etc) and THOSE affect him.
