I wouldn't call the flashbacks shenanigans, let her tell Diesel and Ein's story the way she wants. The flashbacks are contributing to the story. If you don't like it or feel that the last 6 chapters of flashbacks are too long either come back later or don't.

.....that's because it is a different story. You know this part is only focused on Diesel and Ein, the author stated it in chapter 31.5. It's like 5 chapters, it's not long compared to other flashbacks.
