Honestly, I'm not sure it's author's fault. I've seen stories that try to do some twist on these and then the readers whine all the way to the end trashing the story or another ship because it didn't go as they usually get it ( the trope that they expected to see for the thousandth time).
Do you guys ever have the feeling that you are reading the same plot and story over and over again?
I mean, you open the first page and it has two guys and then one start talking about how he secretly loves his childhood friend that is straight ... then the story invariably is the guy turning gay for him.
Or you read the first chapter and there is this really aggressive guy who either bullies or abuses a weaker one and then there is some kind of rape or abuse or stalking ( the rape with the usual 'It feels weird, oh no, I'm getting hard") and then the bully ends up falling in love with the uke and and the uke falls in love with the seme who turns out not to be a jerk anymore ( because you know, as long as he loves the other guy, everything is forgiven).
I don't know but it feels like 99% of Yaoi/ Shounen Ai stories have this exact same plot. You can almost see the whole story, how the chapter will be, what they are going to say without even turning the pages.
