the scandal from the beginning of this year has calmed down some, and there are authors were able to negotiate about their contracts or find work elsewhere, but now other ones are popping up (i.e. there was one about an editor pressuring an underage author into writing a masturbation scene in their work i think??) all related to lezhin, all of which haga and kjy have been pretty vocal about.
...because, i mean. this is the duo that wrote a villain who screws others over for financial gain and regularly exploits minors. are you really gonna be surprised that they don't condone that shit irl?
I mean, I'd understand a month or two of delays, but a whole fucking year without any updates? This used to be a weekly series so making just one episode couldn't have take more than a few days, seems like they just got kinda lazy and said fuck it for a year after their first big hit took off. Even I paid for half of the first season which I almost never do unless something is really well done, but I guess this is what I get for not just pirating shit as usual, endless hiatus with no continuation in sight...
I doubt it's actual laziness, considering the Lezhin controversy, both of them being involved in various writers' lectures, and the fact that it apparently took them roughly 6 months to get the print version in circulation. It kinda just sounds more like they have lives outside of their webcomic.
KJY has mentioned on Twitter that she's been deliberately avoiding setting a specific date for Season 2's release, but hasn't mentioned why - given that several artists previously contracted with Lezhin have now moved sites, maybe she and Haga are planning to do the same? It would sound flimsy, except they've also both posted previews of Season 2 there as well, so we know they haven't given up on it. Then again maybe I'm just too old for this shit.
