The brother cannot love anymore I think. Even if he tries building a relationship with senpai, he will still think about the lil brother constantly and feels more guilty. Otherwise, with the lil brother, he can be at peace. Truly sad.
I mean yea... Truth is not always beauty, some people ended up with other people that doesn't deserve them, some mistake are made and couldn't be undone. This manga is so close to reality, how someone prefer their partner to be someone who will accept for they are. The brother in my opinion couldn't bear if he get another rejection from "senpai". He knows that "senpai" will think otherwise if "senpai" knew the truth. After seeing his "little brother" did not change and accept him even after he told about the incident with their mother, he know that "little brother" will still treasure him for many years ahead. It's far from ideal relationship, but i could understand the brother choice (sorry the naming is so confusing)
