Ok!! So to follow up on the "5 questions from a gay guy" topic, which was TREMENDOUSLY interesting, does any of you know why girls are so fascinated with yaoi? Like scientific reason and stuff? Also, if you are a fudanshi, tell me what makes you interested in yaoi as well!!

For my own opinion girls like yaoi because it features men ( who are really cute and handsome) together.

TBH I really hate romantic things such as having a bf, dating and such even though I'm a straight girl. And because of that I also hate seing girls in mangas making lovey dovey with their crushes or bfs. It's so corny for me. That's why yaoi is perfect for me....cute and handsome guys acting so cute and funny and romantic without girls or female in a story. Hate me, bash me but I don't really like shoujo ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

I can only talk for my case¡ but:
I really enjoy reading romance or even smutty stories but i feel really unconfortable with these topics when it comes to myself. I think that's why I prefer stories that don't make me feel like I HAVE to identify with the female lead, 'cause in most cases I don't. I still like reading shojo or gl, but to enjoy a fictional romance story, the less it has to do with me the better.
I hope i explained myself right

Hi! In terms of "scientific reason" I encourage you to take a look at this thesis : https://urresearch.rochester.edu/institutionalPublicationPublicView.action?institutionalItemId=5822 which is super complete about yaoi, its history, the reasons behind its creation and evolution(s).

"I also show how romance narratives with two male protagonists serve women’s sexual fantasies even though women’s “real” position is not represented in them. What is examined includes heteronormative values that are reflected in typical yaoi texts, especially since the 1990s. At the same time, I argue that yaoi is significant because it provides the only discursive space in modern Japan that serves women’s desires, including sexual ones, in a sustainable manner."
