Same! I was like, how stupid can he be! It's obviously drugged! They're probably going to kidnap him and ask for a ransom cause they know a rich kid is backing him.
Unfortunately, most Chinese men will probably fall for that trick. It's kind of an old Chinese cultural thing where men who have had disputes offer each other an alcoholic drink as a way to resolve conflict. Sort of a good will gesture.

I didn't know that but I still knew there was more to the story. Weird that you or the OP didn't. It's like people think that stories written by authors from different cultures won't utilize different cultural practices. Or that narration is something to ignore completely. I mean *obviously* the fact our MC states that he figures that once the gangsters realized what type of person bailed him out they were trying to suck up to him means nothing whatsoever, right?
