If Yanek was Diesel's lover and seeing how he seemed to be in good term with Ein, then maybe there were in the situation where killing him was the best way out? Like, he's badly injured and might not make it anyway?

I forgot whether or not this was mentioned, but I feel that it’s implying that Yanek was the mafia heir in Ein’s and the Chief’s conversation. That’s why people are after him.
Oml, what if Ein and Yanek had to come to some sort of silent agreement behind Diesel’s back and it was a kind of suicide pact and Ein was forced, but not quite, to kill Yanek. I say not quite because one of them probably just had to no matter what because of their stances on the kind of battlefield they’re on.
Heck, it might’ve just become something they’d all knew would happen and accepted that and moved on- as much as they wanted to stop and just think over whatever just happened. But, as you know, Ein has people constantly at his tail.

oh I love these theories <3 I think Yanek is the mafia's heir and Diesel's lover. I remember back in season one that Ein have a bullet wound that Diesel was licking and that was probably done by either Yanek, some random character or Diesel himself.
The wolf theory from @torride is pretty much accurate since that would explain why Diesel is questioning his feelings for Ein.
I remember he asked Bexan
"Have you ever been in love? You know that staying with that person will be the end of you but you stay anyway" and saying "Ein is the one who killed that person"
We also know that those guys recognized Diesel as "Ghost" which implies that he was saved by Yanek and then made into some kind of elite killer and used by him.
Also, those bruises on Diesel's feet looks like he've been shackled for a long time so Yanek somehow saved him and those feelings of gratitude made him love Yanek and so Yanek was able to use him and Ein fell in love with Diesel so he hid and killed Yanek and took Diesel with him.

This may be wrong because it was not explicitly told in the webtoon, but this is what I understand so far from Diesel's backstory.
Yanek was Diesel's lover until Ein killed him and by wolf senses or wolf logic, whoever kills your partner is a stronger wolf to bond with (to better protect you), that's why Diesel is with Ein.
Now I'm not saying this is the truth, this is only what I think is what Diesel meant when he was questioning himself, if his feelings for Ein are real love or if it's only because of his wolf senses that made him attached to Ein. I remember Diesel said Ein killed his lover. Bet that's Yanek. As to why? I don't know.
