You're reading Playtime with Hakdo...and you think this is cringey? Ok...

Theres no need to hate you honey, thats your point of view.

Nothing wrong with a little cringe...most yaoi is cliche anyway...however, I disagree with the realizing he's in love as being "cheesy".
@ Tai, I swear that made me giggle, Playtime with Hakdo is so...I don't know, cringey isn't the word for it. It's like cringe x 100.

thank you so much, everyone's like "awww poor alex!" but holy fuck i've seen this stupid backstory in so many different yaois i just rolled my eyes

I agree, I was expecting much more and it was your typical "my parents think i'm a failure and compare me to my over achieving sibling" and the "the person I loved didn't love me back" trope...I wasn't too thrilled, considering that happens to MANY people.
Nothing wrong with taking the cliche route but I'm not gonna lie when I say I rolled my eyes a bit.

If it bothers you so much that you rolled your eyes, stop reading it. Who gives a damn if it is cliche? Most backstories are. Name 3 other yaoi's that has the same backstory as Jiwon...the same exact backstory. I swear, people like ya'll like to complain about tragic backstories being cliche or cringy. Would you rather him be a complete asshole for no reason? Or, how about ya'll come up with something better instead of complaining about the same stuff over and over. It's annoying.

Look it this way, yeah sure it's "cliche"-- but I find it to be that Mingwa is making it more about Jiwon being relatable. I think we've all been compared to someone who overachieves and it happens a lot, especially in Korea where they disown their children (which pretty much happened to him) and how that can mess up someone's life. The fact that it happens a lot doesn't mean it's a bad thing, it makes it understandable and relatable, if done correctly. Writers and artist strive to make their characters relateable, understandable and make us feel for the character. I mean, I read worse, like Tai said, Jiwon could have been a depth-less character who is an asshole for no reason. Then there would be people complain that he is a stiff character with no chances of improvements. But an artist can't make everyone happy, so you and the others that agree can have an opinion. I'm just happy the story is going somewhere and compared to other webtoons I've read, this is getting better. I can't wait to continue reading it and supporting Mingwa

why does everyone just say "stop reading it" when somebody has a complaint about a story? like. the manwha is flawed and readers are pointing out why and your first response is "WELL DON'T READ IT!" like. shut up. the thing that bothers me the most isn't the backstory, but rather how people are using it to justify alex's treatment towards DG. which makes me hate the backstory extra much. so calm down. relax.

also did you really just go into someone's reading list looking for something to make fun of? how much time do you have on your hands?

I remember her post on the page. I didn't look at her reading and if I did, I can. Shut the fuck up. If you can others can say what they what, so can I. Don't tell me to relax...majority of the people here aren't using his past to justify anything, there are only a few. I said what I said. Don't try to back peddle out of this.

I can read the comments if I want to and reply. Don't call me "dear", bitch I don't know you.
I can handle criticisms as well as the next, but sitting here and complaining about a story not being written the way they want is bullshit and an insult to the author.

Dude....calm down. If you like Alex's backstory, feel free to express that you like it and think it fits the rest of the story. If some other people, including me, do not like his backstory, then we are allowed to express it too. Either way, we are all entitled to our personal opinions and respect other people, and there's no need to lash out like you have done multiple times in this thread.
For example, Rae (a user who replied to me) told me why they think that this is a good backstory, even if its cliche, and I can understand their POV after the explanation. The point is that they did it respectfully without being rude or cussing me out like you did.

I guess that makes sense, I still would've preferred something more original because I've seen similar backstories many times, but yeah, relating to the readers is an important part of writing.

On the contrary, I feel like they overdid it, to the point where it wasn't relatable at all. I've grown up with 3 brilliant older siblings and I've always been terrified of not living up to the expectations that they set (my brother is studying to be a civil engineer and I'm an art student... go figure) so this backstory had the potential to resonate with me a lot, but... it really didn't. It felt over the top and i couldn't take it seriously, it felt like nothing but a sob story, and I can't feel sorry for him. I think that for mingwa to have done this more tastefully, she could've played down the story a bit, or left more to the imagination. The way she structured it made it feel like Alex's while life is a tragedy, but... It's kinda not. Of course the stuff he wants through is gonna make him insecure and have a hard time to love, but emotional abuse isn't something to be taken lightly, but... come on, this stuff happens to lots of people. And it certainly is no excuse to be a douchebag. I'm glad it gave jiwon depth to some people, but that didn't reach me and a lot of other readers. I don't want to pity characters, I want to see them actually grow. I'm just disappointed in how this was handled is all.

I fully disagree. Just because you had 3 brilliant siblings, seems like you didn't get disowned but he did. That's the difference, just because you felt that it was over the top, it happens in real life especially in Asian countries. How could she have done it more tastefully? People like to say what she could have done but never say how she could have done it, if we are talking real criticism here. It actually did reach a lot of readers. I think that's what annoys me about when people give "criticism", they often complain about something but never give anyway or viewpoint on how to fix the issue they have a problem with. Just because you don't feel that the last 3 chapters didn't resonate with you or feel tragic enough for you doesn't mean it was done badly. Do you want Jiwon to sit in a therapy session and talk to a psychologist about his problems? Would that work for you? Is that more tasteful? "Could have played down the story a bit",if she played it down a bit, you would be complaining about it not being enough.

"instult the author"...You don't even understand what those words mean. No need to "insult" other because you're at loss of words. Just go study kiddy and get enough education to have a proper conversation with adults :)
