I think it’s normal. Sometimes white people be looking the same for me and black peoples.
Ok. Thank u, makes me feel a bit more comfortable
Yes, and this one's coming from a person who speaks to a lot of Asians from different countries. You can get down to stereotypes/generalisations but you'll still mistake one for the other. I usually listen to their accent (if they're speaking english)/the language they're speaking. Even then, you'd get it wrong 'cause of shared languages. The only way to get it right is to ask them. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
This is why I panic when someone asks me to guess their background haha :’D
You can't tell the difference between a Chinese and a Viet person. But with Japanese and Korea,it is much more easier since theres only 2 main difference on their majority.
Koreans are taller than Japanese people. And that most Japanese people have oval shaped faces and Koreans have heart shaped ones. But not all of them are the same.
Totally normal. This can also happen with other cultures as well. This can also happen with european countries, pacifican countries, and other western countries. It's simply that most east asian countries' faces looks too similar. I guess it's like their face structure is too similar for neighbouring countries....uhhh if u get what I mean.. Im tired rn, so sorry bout the wall of text...
well, i mean it's quite misleading if you say
"Is it normal not to be able to tell the difference between asians? I know it sounds like the stereotype all asians look the same."
it's more apt to say 'not being able to tell the difference between east asians and viets'.
in any case, it's perfectly normal to confuse them. and regarding your question, i believe the users at quora can help you (though excluding viets):

It's normal, yeah. Except if you actually live in some asian country for while. Basically, if you don't see people from a given race often, you won't be able to differenciate them unless they have big difference in their faces.
I live in North America since I was born and never have been in contact with a lot of asians, so I personally can't tell the difference between chinese, japanese and koreans just by looking at their faces. I can only guess by their name and it's not always accurate.
And Hello to you
Have a good day
Yeah bad wording, sorry. Probably should have done some research, thanks for the link!
I got lazy and only mentioned some
Oops(づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ
Lol i have no problem. They call us brown skinned or South Asian/West Asians "Indians", and i have np, cause thats what i am. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
I myself call East Asians (or such ppl at my region) "Asian", and ppl be like "... Are we Africans/Europeans/Americans (etc)? "
Lol i am least bothered about nationality, except when i face racism (Fucking retards).
Hey awkward question. Is it normal not to be able to tell the difference between asians? I know it sounds like the stereotype all asians look the same. I’m Asian myself though. I opened the door today because I thought they were my mum’s friends. Turns out they were advertisers or something, my family hates that. I told my family I thought they were viet too but they just rolled their eyes at me.They seem kinda mad at me now?
How do you tell the difference between Chinese, Korean, Japanese, viet??? @-@
