At least they bought/rented him some lavish apartment instead of kicking him out onto the streets. He's at university, doing well and had/has an income from his streams. So although emotionally he is struggling, at least he had some stability.

Yeah so fucking cool of his folks that they "kindly" let their 18-year-old son SURVIVE instead of kicking him out because he didn't meet their ridiculous expectations. That's unbelievable.

Not justifying their behaviour, but he never ended up homeless and was in a better position than most. DG for example, is also living alone in a much smaller apartment and is having to work in a coffee shop, as well as manage his studies.

And DG started working in a cafe because he needed extra money for chestnuts which he used regularly to pay for Alex's show, in case you don't remember

Maybe, he might not have wanted for anything financially, but the emotional void was massive thanks to the abuse of his parents and what happened with his ex. Dong-gyun too had his problems growing up though, he says at the start his parents were very conservative, which was a catalyst to him getting so engrossed in BJ Alex, as he represented everything he was not, and maybe influenced why Dong-gyun was so passive in every aspect of his life, which ultimately led to him getting taking advantage of or isolated, and not being able to assert himself in a productive balanced way, and relying quite often on alcohol as courage.

The events from ch.50 took place when he finished high school and took a final exam, which makes him 18-years-old because this is an age when you graduate in South Korea.

Everybody has problems, but the intensity of these problems vary.
To be frank, it's hard to talk about DG because we actually don't know that much about his past. We were only told that thing about his parents being conservative, and that's all. But my understanding of why he even talked about his parents being conservative is because he couldn't really come out to them as gay and receive their support (as far as I'm aware, South Korea is pretty homophobic). I mean, even regular porn was strictly prohibited in his house, so my guess is gay porn and even gay topic itself was also viewed as something completely unacceptable by his parents. Thus, he had to conceal his feelings and desires, and somehow ended up isolating himself and watching some cam boys online, lol. That's pretty fucked up, but not that uncommon actually.
