I suppose that depends on the authors view on their own omegaverse. I've seen them need a heat (Pendulum), not need a bite at all (Love is an illusion) and even one where a child alpha bit child omega outside heat but they still bonded (Sayonara Koibito, Mata Kite Tomodachi)
