dude don't diss emotional abuse, it does things to a person and can leave deeper scars than physical ones
i think that alone could be enough. It is hard to live with family who keeps you under control all the time, comparing you with other people, never content with your actions, and no affection. Living this sort of life would create huge trauma. If there wasn't a rival better than him like his older brother (the first born son lmao) and he could get compliments he wouldn't realize what's wrong. Continue the family traditions. But he keeps getting the short straw.

The way Alex turned out, there's no way that that's all that messed him up. There has to have been phyisical, sexual abuse going on somewhere in his childhood.
