Okay I finally found out how Lan Xan knew that the main character was Wei Ying
Spoilers below - - -- -- - -- - - - - - - - - - The flute song that Wei WuXian(or Wei Ying) plays for Wen Ning (the ghost general) is a song Lan WanJi or "Lan Xan" played for Wei Ying when they were teenagers when Wei Ying and Lan Xan were stuck in the cave in Qishan Wen Sect territory because of that turtle monster. (novel readers and anime readers should have read or watched the scene already) The manga page below shows that scene in the background.
My God! The scene in chapter 25 makes so much more sense now: (Excerpt below)
[Wei WuXian asked, “Lan Zhan, you’ve known that it was me ever since we were at Dafan Mountain, right?”
Wei WuXian wondered, “How could you tell?”
Lan WangJi looked down at him, “You want to know?”
Wei WuXian declared, “Yes.”

It seemed as if something had sent ripples through Lan WangJi’s eyes. Yet, the slight waves faded immediately, and his eyes were a still pool of water again.
