Yeah, I thought that was terrible. Seriously, I've had multiple people living in the same house before, like up to 10 people and I always knew if they were ok. If I hadn't seen someone is more than 24 hours you better believe I asked the others if they were ok, and if no one knew a search happened. Not that it ever got to that point (ok, there was a guest that was over once and he was drinking heavily so when he disappeared we went searching for him right away. He was fine, but we needed to make sure he was) but my point is we made sure everyone was ok, had their meals and weren't dead in their room for 3 days. (Seriously, how did no one notice that granny wasn't getting anything to eat?)
