I don’t think his feelings ever went away for Jian Yi. It’s kinda like you said, he put them “to rest” but it never went away, almost like he hid or pushed it so that it wouldn’t hurt to think about it anymore. He is so whipped for Jian Yi. He’ll be heartbroken, it’s understandable but at least he seems to get over the upset of it quickly when Jian Yi comes back after a bit - he can’t resist Jian Yi’s cuteness lbr lol - and they officially OFFICIALLY get together. I keep staring at the official side illustrations the author has made of them being happy and making out in the future to keep me chill in the meantime. It’ll definitely be a feels trip but at least we have a happy end goal. :D
for now, let’s enjoy the sappy romantic present

there are also more illustrations of them together in the future but I'm not going to search ALL of them.. so I just chose my faves lol. (the second one actually may be present time or at least close to it btw.. not future not sure) but yeah they're an endgame couple :)
For Chinese, Zheng Xi’s “hnng” actually means yes. The fact that he straight up admitted it and that he has difficulty explaining how deep his feelings are for Jian Yi because it’s so much more overwhelming than just “like”, his feelings are so much more captivating than that. Jian Yi means more to him than anyone.
I just wanna tattoo the last two panels on my forehead.
