I think he did that for help manabu with his feeling for Ian.
U can see his smile when Ian run after Manabu.
I don't think he meant something bad with it. (in the past not now)

He could have helped him without provoking him, maybe make Manabu trust in Ian more by saying they have nothing to do with eachother now? Instead Kaoru made Manabu insecure and belittled him in front of Ian, how is that helping their relationship? He made it worse, only Ian and Manabu contributed in improving their relationship, so don't come defending that motherfucker to me.
