It's not love. In the end it's pity tht Mei feels for the miserable Misato
He couldn't satisfy any of the Sato's so he decided to stick with Misato's love in the end, wishing tht one day he'll find his lost love again.(meaning he'll be able to love Misato without any obligations or pity)
Mei!!! Stop calling him sato!!! He is masato!! I bet he'd love to know for sure who your calling! It would go a long way in proving that mei loves masato now and not either of the twins.
