well oops (￣∇￣") as i've said earlier i don't remember much about the web novel, so that's why this ends up more of a speculative dump rather than anything else. thanks for telling me about which chapter to check though
I just find out that manga based on LN. It has some difference with WN.
*Spoilers (though it's more of a little fun fact—that's real vague and probably not true so ignore this):
From my vague memories of the web novel, after Iris' father gave her the position of maintaining their fief, Barrett was introduced to Iris a few days later. It was implied, then later outright stated by Barrett himself (or, something along the lines of that—remembering is fucking hard rip), that he was actually a person sent by Iris' father (I can't remember his name oops) to run the fief so Iris could relax. Of course, since Iris chose to work on and improve the fief, he wasn't exactly needed anymore.
Later, however, it seems Iris gave a position as a sort of manager to the mansion the Azuta Company bought, hence their conversation on the low staff. This part here is me making the manga try to work a little with my mish-mash of memories, but I do think Barrett was related to the Azuta Company in the web novel. Who knows? ╮(￣▽￣)╭
