Are they related? Why the same last names?

I'm sure what Usako is trying to say is people can live in a close proximity to one another while sharing a last and not be related to one another. Sharing last names and not being relatives is beyond common. I don't think you had to be so rude.

A lot of Asian families have the same last name even if they're not related--87% of Chinese people share the same 100 last names, so I assume it's somewhat similar in Japan.
