what my guess is is that they met because of that middle friend and Alex started having feelings for him but turns out Alex fell in too deep and the guy ended just using him after he wooed him. So he felt betrayed by his first love and made him into this bitter asshole we all learned to love lol
... Alex was cheated on, wasn't he? And the other guy was the third dude in the picture as well?
Damn, if that happened, I can sort of understand his behaviour. Having something like that happen to you can break a person.
