Been dropped by scanlation team apparently because it's now being licensed in english

What does it mean by “being licensed in English”? Why does that cause the people to drop it?
Basically from what I know a lot of translators already ask not to share translations around unless given permission by them since they are fan translations and doesn't profit the mangaka/author (technically in some cases it is illegal). Once it is licenced by official translators where the author can receive profits, translators would stop in order to help those profits? I'm not very sure but if anyone else knows more plz further explain. This is just what I learn from comments and the translation sites.
Also in regards to being licensed in English I think that is when you can buy official copies of the manga in English or something along those lines. Not so sure I'm just a reader atm
