I think it's more like he's selectively mute and has some hearing impairments but idk
I'm not sure about this, but I think Li Qing has selective mutism and a type of synesthesia. (Synesthesia is tasting words, hearing colours etc. There are 6 different types, but I'm pretty sure he has chromestesia, which could explain him hearing a purple triangle in an earlier chapter.) But idk ╮(￣▽￣)╭
This is what I think as well. Since he threw away the music score it seems as though he was probably a successful musician. Hearing impairments would undoubtedly affect his career. To top it off, they insinuated that he is in the sanitarium by choice, not because he was forced. It also makes sense since he needs to see his lips to be able to ‘hear’ what he says. Makes you wonder why he is afraid of the rain though.
