Word help!

Someone please help me out here (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Does the word “beat” have a past tense or is it still spelt the same but pronounced sounds like ‘bet’? Is it like the word “read” when pronounced in past tense sounds like ‘red’?

I’m working on a manhwa translation and the sentence is “His breath, his touch, his kiss... My heart beat (past tense) for him, but...”

I think beat doesn't have a past tense. Maybe my heart beats faster for him..,.

In past tense it's written "beat" (and I think it's pronounced the same way as the present tense)

beat is like read. it can be past, present or future tense.
past - "i already beat him in the game"
present - "im beating him in the game right now"
future - "im going to beat him in the game"

it mostly depends on how it was written on key words like "already", "going", the "ing", and such
