For me negative criticism comes in handy, since I know not to waste my time. When people don't like it I know it's less about the work and more about their perceived slight against their tastes.
This was by no means a rude comment. Someone working hard on something does not mean they don't deserve criticism. It's like saying 'You can't say that movie was bad, all the actors and people behind it worked really hard to make it'. If something is bad, it's bad and criticism is what helps the people behind any project grow and learn from the mistakes they made previously.
'I'd like to see you come up with a better and cuter story' is honestly such an invalid argument. Who is the one who is supposed to be a 'professional' manga artist, the OP or the creator of this manga? We are not the ones paying for a halfassed story, but imagine tons of japanese readers forking out money to see this generic tale? It is the manga artist's job to create stories for us.

He cried because he’s human. Whether 5, 22, or 60, males are allowed to cry. They’re allowed to show emotion. I find it attractive :) As for the seme, well, I don’t think he was nearly as bad as other seme I’ve seen. He’s more respectful. He didn’t rape the uke, right? Sure, the manga has its flaws, but I personally don’t think the characters deserve so much hate. The one shots are disappointing
