Well, we find out he's terribly in love with his adoptive mother, who was just 22 years old when she adopted him ( he was then about 8 years old.) His love isn't gratitude or love for a parent, but romantic, like , he wants to be with her forever, take care of her, maybe get intimate, as his romantic feelings imply. Even his dojo colleagues know what the deal is with him. This alone makes the story a bit on the dark side. His is a forbidden love, even though they are not blood related. So, there's nothing cute about this.
Makes sense, what with naming the cat after his adoptive mother and all... Hopefully he doesn't hurt cocoa over this...?

The adoptive mother is not a bad person... she's nice.... and she likes kokoa and the main guy to be girlfriend-boyfriend.... so the two pretend they are in a relationship to make her happy ( the adoptive mother has heart disease and will have surgery soon, so she's very delicate ).... but the deal is , they will break up after the surgery..... later on, the situation becomes complicated due to financial problem ( hospital costs )....... and this is the part where he will hurt kokoa. It's heart- breaking.
