Actually, there is enjoyment in expressing frustration and mocking something you can't change. It's more common with TV shows though ... and the bigger the number of fans disappointed, the bigger the fun because everybody is in the joke. Hate and love for something are just two forms of passion. Sometimes a story becoming ridiculous and laughable to the point of turning into the butt of a joke provides for entertainment and enthusiasm too to talk about.
I have the impression that it sucks more for readers who let other people's opinions affect their own enjoyment of the story. Plenty of fans that still like the story feel the need to come here tell or advise other to drop the story or stop talking and 'let others enjoy it' ( because I suppose they are unable to do it by themselves?) . As if they were unable to enjoy it based on their own opinion. Sucks for them to have this need for validation, even more that it way easier to not keep track of comments that upset them. However, as you said, to each their own I suppose. ╮(￣▽￣)╭

that’s like saying someone hating one single episode (or even a character) from a tv show they love shouldn’t continue watching. of course, that’s not the same for this, but lol.

The comments are riddled with negativity toward the mc and the direction of the story and th amount of drama. When I don't like something, I make sure to drop that shit like it's lava. If I'm doing more complaining than being entertained, it's not worth my time. You guys are complaining just for the sake of complaining. Like someone turning on a TV show they hate and getting super upset about it and still watching it while complaining the whole time. Please, I don't want your wet blanket spilling over onto something I enjoy.
