Seems the most sensible explanation. The master of the house is expecting one guest, Ryan meaning Ryan can distract the Master with a pointless conversation over some tea and biscuits, whilst Kyon investigates whatever is in that room. If Ryan wanted Kyon dead, then he wouldn't have "marked" him, therefore sharing his own powers with him, as well as giving him that dagger for protection.

I kindove feel that Ryan was hiding kyon maybe I'm wrong but it just doesn't feel like he was trying to lock him in to capture him it was most likely so that kyon would find the information on his own while Ryan stall
