Most of us love this story and the characters. There are other stories that are not so good and we openly bash on them. Most of us make the judgement based on reading a few chapters and not based on comments. I don't think the comment section is meant for advertisement. I think it's a non-biased uninhibited exchange of oppinions and serves also to built up the athmosphere. The treatment for every story is the same and therefore justified. Popular stories become highly ranked and people are more likely to find them and try them. Then people who enjoy the story are more likely to buy the story. Perhaps what could be usefull are links to sites where story can be bought.
Comment sections, forums and other sources of communication is considered advertising because it can affect the sales of a product. Yes, the comment section isn't directly used as advertising but it is considered word of mouth advertising. My point was that SOME people can be affected by negative comments which can turn them off from buying or reading. For SOME people, reading the comments and getting a general feel for the reading material assert the decision to read or buy.
Also, an unbiased, uninhibited exchange based on dislike cannot occur, because it is based on a prejudice (calling DG ugly) which makes it biased.
This is an illegal site, people who actually buy it won't be affected by negative comments. Most fans don't even read comments.
Either way, mist comments here are VERY positive.
I would argue that the money the artist gets indirectly from this site is probably minimal. Any comments written here will most likely have little to no effect on the artist's comic or livelihood.
Even if these comments are ever seen by the artist, they should be able to discern constructive criticism from the usual "hate" comments. The internet can be a hateful place. They need to have a strong backbone to survive and thrive here. If a couple of comments can bring them down, then it might be better for them to step back and return when they are mentally prepared to weather these type of commenters.
On that note, I do think there are ways to voice your problems with a story without being an asshole to the writer. It's honestly not that hard to write your opinion without being disrespectful to the author. Hopefully, more people will choose their words carefully in the future.
I understand what you're saying, but speaking from experience this site has exposed me to purchasing sites for physical and digital copies. My post is obviously based on a hypothetical, because we can never know how one affects the other, but if there are other people out there like me then we're not sure if it's a minimal effect. Before this and other illegal sites, I never searched for Lezin, Mr. Blue or Tapas. Now, every manhwa I read on here I also purchase as gratuity to the artist. As for comments influencing my decision, the comments on A Guy Like You dissuaded me from reading it.
Also, everything I wrote is based on the effects of negative online atmospheres on sales whether it's one or many. I'm currently writing a paper on the effects of online communities on the purchasing power of the individual. This is helping me. Its expanding my view on how others see online communities and a great tool for procrastination.
I absolutely see your point. I also would've never learned about lezhin, foxtoon, etc. if it was not for this site. I think the overseas market for Korean webcomics is still growing and so while I don't think what we say here plays too big of a role now, it most likely will in the future. I, personally, don't place too much importance on the negative comments on any given story. Often times I'll even read the story to see what all the hullabaloo is about. But different people, different reactions.
I dont think it's bad to get also the negative comments. I wouldn't go to a restaurant if majority of reviews were bad OR I might try it once and then if it was bad, I'd never eat there again. Again, it depends on how good is the story and the impression it makes.
@Sophy12 what the fuck is your problem? YOU are missing other people’s point!!
That’s like saying when you buy a product or something omg a site like Amazon and you’re dissatisfied or it sucks you have to give it a good review or walk away. That’s not how things work. Spreading opinions by word of mouth isn’t advertising, it’s reviewing, and there’s good and bad reviews because that’s how that whole concept works.
It is considered word of mouth advertising Word of mouth has taken on a digital atmosphere where customer reviews and opinions matter to the purchasing power of the individual. This is an illegal site but we're all customers. I'm trying to figure out how negative comments can affect that One person from purchasing, and hypothetically how many does that one person represent. It's all based on hypotheticals, but ultimately can marketers try to control these environments and homogenize the opinions of others without disrupting the natural flow.
On another note: Are you the original anonymous? if you are, I apologize for this writing this, "Please refrain from commenting if you don't understand what is being said."
Not everyone here is a customer. I would even argue that most people here are not customers and only come here to read something for free which is actually hurting the author more, not because there are some bad comments. One person also can't make much of a difference on sales when there are so many more willing to pay regardless of the bad comments on an illegal site.
Sophy is talking about a broader definition of a customer. Everyone is a customer. Mangago provides us "free" content and we give them our views, which in turn increase their chances of attracting advertisers. Although we are not directly handing over money, mangago is receiving payment in the form of our views. In this age, foot traffic and popularity are incredibly important to businesses/websites/etc. You could even consider views the online currency.
That does not make us customers, the definition of customer means buying of goods (in this case, this comic) from the seller which directly benefits the author. Reading something from an illegal site does does make a person a customer. Mangago does not hand the money over to the person who created this comic. There's a reason why so many authors are against mangago! Let's not excuse illegal sites as being benefial for business because they count as "views".
We are customers for mangago, not this comic.
Don't you guys think your negative comments indirectly affects the manhwa creator. Some people's opinions are changed by negative comments and it can mean less sales for the artist. When I find manhwas on here I try to buy it to support the artist. I don't know how many people do that but negativity can change their mind from purchasing.
Also if I was the person posting the manhwa so everyone can enjoy it, then I would stop because why go through all the hard work just so people can bitch, criticize or complain.
I'm just saying it's good that you have an opinion, but think about how it can affect people directly involved.
