I think it's kinda obvious..
"Never returned" could mean only one thing when a Kappa is involved. Lol
that would be reckless. the kid is still underage.
I don't think that it means anything in a manga = fictional story.
He said it himself.. that his life is much better without his mother and her boyfriend.
chapter 1... the kappa is in disguise and the boy still falls for him. He loved him no matter his form. That's kinda sweet. Though I wonder what kappa-san did to his parents since he said they haven't returned.
