clearly an unpopular opinion based on comments i have seen but am i the only one who thought what noboru did was insanely fucked up?!?!?!?

don't get me wrong, my heart aches for him and what he went through and the fact that he was driven to suicide is awful,
HOWEVER
his main objective in the attempt wasn't to die.
it was literally to ruin someone.
to scar them for life.
Yes, blurting out something you shouldn't and standing by while your friend is constantly bullied is awful and he should feel so guilty for that as it can destroy someones life.
But purposefully traumatizing someone by trying to take your life in front of them with the sole intention of revenge? Sorry but thats about 50 times more fucked up in my book. just had to say it.

Wrong that's not an unpopular opinion but that's exactly why I VEHEMENTLY disagree with you. I hate Hayato even more every time someone pulls this victim blaming b.s. after all.

Hayato NEVER even reached out to Noboru even though he obviously knew he was alive. It sounds like he has yet to ACTUALLY regret his actions. Regret means you at least ATTEMPT to reach out to the person you hurt then do whatever they ask of you even if it IS to just back off.

HAYATO was the one who hurt his friend without even having to be hurt first. HAYATO was the one who caused Noboru to be bullied IN THE FIRST PLACE, then never had the DECENCY to step in and put a stop to it? HAYATO is the worst KIND of bully, one who just stands and watches as another is physically bullied. HAYATO is the one who turned Noboru's love to hate. HAYATO is the one who deserved to be hurt, yet you're saying that the one who did NOT deserve to be hurt, must take all the bullsh** from the bullies and never even THINK of hurting others, only themselves? Way to prove the bullies are RIGHT.

Having BEEN bullied myself I can only say that reactions like yours are FAR too common and that I consider them to be far more f***** up reactions than ANYTHING Noboru did.

I want to like Hayato and I do, in some small way, but every time I see someone pull this type of ignorant action I am less able to believe the author will NOT do the same and make Hayato's character growth IRRELEVANT. Thx.

Based on the comments you've seen, btw? The comments you HAVE seen are the minority for one. The comments I'VE seen agree with you. Weird, huh?

I definitely understand what you are saying and I'm in NO way saying that Hayato isn't terrible for what he did or that he isn't wrong. He did something so awful. And you are right, I also am very shocked he never reached out to apologize in any way. thats fucked too. BUT i still think, despite all that, that attempting suicide JUST to fuck someones life up is too terrible to be excused as "he was the victim". Many victims of abuse have grown up to abuse, that doesn't excuse their actions. Same goes for noboru i think.

When did it ever state that Hayato KNEW Noboru was alive? I don't recall reading that. How I see it is that after Noboru jumped from the roof he was rushed to the hospital and Hayato probably went home right away and never learned that Noboru had lived. After seeing someone jump off of a roof in front of you, I'd think that he'd go home and be absent from school for awhile. Noboru transferred to another school. This is apparent cuz when he jumped off of the roof they were in their 2nd year of Middle School. Souma met Noboru in Middle School as well after he transferred to Souma's Middle School.

I'm sorry but I think it's messed up to assume that Hayato even knew Noboru was alive the whole time. Until that is actually stated then I'll keep believing that he had no idea and he thought Noboru had died.

Also, maybe you are right and maybe he did know, we don't know the whole story of what transpired after Noboru jumped from the roof. It could be though that Noboru's parents didn't allow Hayato to visit him. There's really no way to tell unless it's revealed later on in the story.

well, to be fair, being terribly bullied isn't the greatest experience in the world. all kinds of abuse can sprout from it, and eventually becomes a trauma.

not saying it justifies his actions, but it was more of an eye for an eye, a trauma for a trauma. hayato's betrayal lead to noboru's revenge.

the only thing i slightly disagree with noboru is that he chose to redirect his hatred to the wrong person (not that i can blame him, hayato was the source of his suffering, in a way) ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

It's only in unrealistic manga that you can pull the "I didn't know he was alive" bullshit, schools make announcements and such when a student dies whether the incient happens on the school premises or not. I'm very sure everyone was well informed of the situation back then. So he would know.
And Hayato never once told himself "oh dear god he's alive?!"
The only reason why it comes as a surprise that Noburo didn't die is because the author purposely tricked the readers...

I agree ... i was bullied too ... not as much as noboru, but even that small amount stressed me out and hurt like hell ... crying was the only thing i could do in the beginning

I know i'll be hated, but i neither like souma or hayato ... and i hope that noboru will find someone awesome, who showers him with a lot of love
