Many people don't want to be bottoms, it's a preference that should be respected. Fumi is not perfect, he has his flaws but to label him as "immature" for actually holding back and being honest about his feelings?
Good yaoi mangas are not really based on how healthy the characters are with each other or if someone kills themselves. It's pretty subjective and some might argue that your introduction to yaoi is not that good. So can't really argue which is "better" with people who all have such different tastes.
With the seme/uke roles, I just see it as top/bottom and don't put personality role so into it since top/bottoms positions are true to life for many people. I do however like that Fumi is not this super masculine being that is so much attached to being a seme/top even in the real world.
His sex with Shunpei made him cry from happiness and he was super emotional so I don't get that he was "sulky". In terms of being manipulative, people make it seem like he was a master mind and forced Shunpei, which I think people are under rating Shunpei a little too much. Shunpei made it clear that he knew what he was doing.
This manga is more based on comedy and fluff, that is the selling point which is not everyone's favorite but so many people do like it along with the gorgeous artwork and cute story. I think each person has their own favorites.
I do like that many things here were not cliche.
we've all listed plenty of our reasons on why we think this way. he is sulky. and even fumi admitted in his own internal dialogue in one of the chapters that, "If i do this, shun will let me do this". he knew he was being manipulative to some degree.
"Comedy and fluff". not so much. if you read around enough, you know that's not quite where this one falls. "Fluff" would be actual innocence, naive. not fumi.
it does just fall under us having our own tastes, and seeing things differently.
You have listed your opinions, but that doesn’t mean you are right. Anna didn’t say Funi can’t be sulky, we ALL can be sulky at times. Same way with him trying ways to be with he person he likes.
This IS comedy. There are many hilarious moments and it’s labeled as comedy. Maybe you should read what those words mean.
(bring on the down votes. i know it's coming)
But can i just say, after it was complete and i got to re-reading it so many times, it looses it's charm. I feel like Fumi is a bit manipulative, even if he isn't trying to be. It started out fine. but after they started hitting foreplay, i HATE that he was so against being a bottom, yet was offended when his partner said the same thing. and your reaction was to get pissed at him, not be like "i understand if you need more time". that got resolved okay. But then their was also that moment of the first time they had sex and he seemed to know jack squat about the preparations. Like, you want to have gay sex, go learn all the facts for both of you. Even during sex, he was panicked and asking if he was hurt. and was clearly scared. all he tells him is, "you're fine. don't talk about another guy to me". like, you could of done so many things to make him calm down. The whole ex-girlfriend thing too. Shunpei ran into mayu, unplanned, once, and saw a few texts. she called his buddies and showed up at the school. Why is fumi so pissed about that one?? Shunpei literally did nothing to feel guilty about. Then you ignore his phone calls all day and hang out with a guy gunning for you. that's not okay. The constant "i want to do it now. not wait for you to get prepped" thing too. and the "Go pretty yourself up, but we're doing it raw"? the fuck, you know how fucked up that will make him feel? and the sex prior to that, he went at his own pace, since shunpei finally felt good, but clearly, was going even after knowing it was painful. how can one do that? To the point he is hurting the next day? and you still nag about him saying no to fingers then too. i felt like shunpei could of done better.
