Ten Count too hyped?

I'm curious as to why people love Ten Count so much. Don't get me wrong I don't hate it, in fact I kept up with it since it was first released, but for some reason I feel that it is too hyped. I love Rhito sensei's works (Hana no Mizu Shiru my personal fav) but I feel that Ten Count is overshadowing other amazing bl mangas that are in my opinion, way better. I ask this because I've been on lots of anime merchandise online websites and found only Ten Count items being sold and I get shook because I want there to be more yaoi merchandise that isn't Ten Count especially since it has a large fan base. I'm also Ignoring the 6 Lovers special items that are also being produced... Overall, I just want to see why so many bl manga enthusiasts love Ten Count so much. Keep in mind these are just OPINIONS and online arguing about which manga is good or not can be kept to yourself.

I think the reason it got so popular is because it has a more unique plot
Not gonna lie I actually lost all interest in the series when it actually turned into a yaoi as it just felt uncomfortable with trying to fix him with sex despite knowing his phobia and the uke who I liked was changed to be more meek and all that
The sexual stuff was hot but I completely lost all interest once it actually happended

Huh, I haven't seen much Ten Count since it ended. Feels weird hearing the name mentioned again. XD
One of the reasons it may be so popular is the number of chapters it had. Yaoi manga with a lot of chapters tend to get some more attention, due to them appearing on the "New chapters list" more often than a manga with let's say only 5 chapters. Along with yaoi manga that gets animated.
Of course, there are probably more reasons, but I can't put my finger on it. But in others words, I think Ten Count just gets advertised more.

Maybe bc shirotani &kurose were made to compliment each other really well

well i think the reason is:Mysophobia
The manga was balanced(not too many sex scenes) and had an interesting plot. okay im not gonna say that it was the best but the fact that the protagonist couldnt stand being touched made the things fascinating. For example, we got that scene when the seme took off uke's glove and licked his fingers' in another manga this would seem normal and nbdy would overthink it, but with us knowing that the uke has this certain problem the scene changed entirely into something more erotic and triggering....so i think the main reason that many people enjoy this manga is that the author manages to bring the hidden lust of the characters without them having any intercourse...(well they do have after but anyway)

I personally love Ten Count because it was my first yaoi.
But I definitely understand where your coming from seeing as I was new to the yaoi fandom when this happened I'm not too familiar with this drama but a recent example that I can think of is Killing Stalking cause of its extreme popularity I often see yaoi or bl of the same kind of genre being compared to KS for example I've seen some people comparing Harada's work to killing stalking and such

    Definitely that.
I wonder as well, I, personally, have never been the biggest fan Rhito's storytelling (I liked 7 Days but it had another author attached to it) and the "sex can (not) cure your psychological pathology" thing was indeed awkward.
When you look at the sales Ten Count is a juggernaut, compared to other BL, with a launching printing around 300 000 copies for the most recent volumes....
I think having the publisher push you towards success also helps, Ten Count was prepublished in Dear+, on of the bigger prepublishing magazine for BL... and publishers can't afford spending to much money and effort on promoting all of their series. They only need one ultra popular series to sell a magazine. If the publishing company is making merchandise for only Ten Count, well, of course Ten Count's popularity will increase even more compared to other series ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
Btw, I've been to an animate store in Asia recently and judging from their choice in merchandise it seems that Scarlett Beriko's Jealousy might become the next big thing (granted it lasts long enough to really take off), another series from Dear +...

I ask that about all mainstream yaoi mangas is not just ten count btw is not like i say other mangas deserve that popularity is not like that but also it depends in the fans of the mangaka that they manly follow her work also for exmaple yoneda kou and nekota sensei have a big fanbase that not just read their mangas but also buy their merchandise and read their mangas regardless what is it about.

I agree, I couldn’t handle the sex scenes for some reason, like I don’t know!? I usually like hot smexy scenes but Ten Count just- I don’t know how to explain it.

I like the art but the plot is too much for me.

    Art: 5/5
    Plot: 4/5
    Sex: 4/5
    Overall: 4.3/5.
Not too complicated. Good mix of conflict/drama. Characters each have their own personalities. Their relationship is interesting. Why not hype it? It's got the components of a good manga (imo).

A friend super hyped up Ten Count but when I finally read it, I just couldn't get into it. I think I read about 20 or 30 chapters, stopped reading, and couldn't be bothered to pick it up again. I feel you.

I feel the same too and I personally love one of her works, Graineliers. I don't hate Ten Count, but I do feel that there are much more interesting plot out there which are not standing out as much as Ten Count. Ten count was too hyped that I did not get that much of Ten Count merchandises, instead went around looking for other yaoi merchandises though it doesn't seem like a lot of BL fans are interested in the other yaoi merchandises and would prefer Ten Count...
