i mean i definitely cried too but.. it wasn’t like depressing kind of sad? but the anime was so soft and happy and the end was kind of sorrowful in contrast so i guess, yeah it’s sad

Actually the MC stays in his hometown and Poco leaves him becuase he can't maintain his human form forever. It seems the main reason Poco appears to Souta is because as a high schooler Souta saved the tanuki from getting run over by a car, injuring his leg in the process. I got the impression that Poco wanted to thank him by helping him reconnnect with his hometown and get over what happened between him and his father.

Actually *Spoiler* if you watch past the the ending song souta put the picture of him and poco and after that it shows the granny and her granddaughter the granny says that she is chasing a tanuki and the granddaughter says it was a baby tanuki. The granny and the granddaughter leave and Souta looks around and sees some bushes move and it was actually the baby tanuki and you would never guess what happens next the baby tanuki is actually poco at the very end it shows poco in human form hugging souta
