I disagree with the comments praising Kyunghee's mother, she it seems is just as criticism worthy as all of his other relationships. Reasons?
- She makes the death of Kyunghee's father all about her, and how this effects her own social standing.
- She and her son have a codependent relationship. Look at how she guilt trips her son after he returns late, then he ends up on her lap as if he were a child (he's 24 years old).
- She has no awareness of the emotional and financial burden she has placed on her son, nor appreciation for his contributions.
- Her response to her boyfriend (son's sugar daddy) being smeared as a pedo in the press, and her son saying the boyfriend was a predator was to smack her own child in the face and not even listen to what he had to say. Instead she labelled her son as selfish.
Indeed, none of the characters can be simplistically defined as either being "good' or "bad". The author still hasn't gone into the backstory of how Kyunghee ended up selling himself in order to pay for university yet as far as I know, there must be more to why he went into this line of work (maybe his desire to use others) rather than try to maintain a "normal" job.
For real though. She pisses me off so much. She lived with her son alone all this time and can't even listen to him for a second, instead she buys the bullshit that man is spouting.
What decent mother would do this? It's supposed to be Son>Lover not Lover>Son
Anyone else feel really bad for the mom?? She has the short end of the stick bc the old man doesnt even love her... Im nervous for her when/if she finds out whats really going on between her son and him
